I built a catio for our cats in the hopes they would spend more time outside and less time annoying me, but it wasn't as effective as I'd hoped. They spend some time out there, but it's not super entertaining out there I guess. The back patio when we lived in Florida had a lot more going on. In any case, here are some pictures I took along the way.
The pieces that are stained already are what used to be our dining table before I built a new one earlier this year. I think I only had to buy 6 new 2x4s.
After I finished building it, I painted it brown.
Then I attached wire fence to keep out any possible coyotes, not that I've seen any around here.
I cut a hole in the wall for a pet door. Kind of terrifying to cut a hole in the house, but also one of the joys of home ownership.
I then added some platforms so the cats could get up higher.
It was a quick and easy project from start to finish. I just need to figure out how to make the cats want to be out there for longer periods.
