Updated shirt listing

Updated in case anyone plans to get me a shirt for my birthday. Check with Carrie if you want to double check that no one beat you to it. Size large works for either American Apparel or Beefy T, (medium beefy T fits now, but I think it's going to shrink more) though I prefer American Apparel shirts if available.
I prefer American Apparel (size large), but Hanes Beefy T is alright too (size medium). Check the shirt details to find out what kind of shirt it's printed on. Some of them offer both options, so be careful when ordering!

Give me food or give me death

As I was doing research today for my thesis, I came across an idea in a paper that made me realize why I love to eat so much. Here it is:

"...when making aesthetic appraisals of a potato chip, consumers examine with their eyes and feel with their fingers the shape, the contour, and the thickness of the chip. They smell with their nose and taste with their tongue the flavour of the chip, feel with their teeth and jaw the biting pressure, and hear with their ears the cracking sound of Engineering aesthetics and aesthetic ergonomics 1277 breaking the chip. A winning brand will have to please the consumer along all the modalities."

Eating really is one of the truly full-sensory experiences. If you had asked me yesterday, I would have said that food was primarily about taste, but I don't think that's really the case. I never thought about it too much before, but from the appearance and smell of the food, to the satisfying crunch of a chip or the pleasant squish of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, food goes way beyond the just the flavor. A rose by any other name may smell as sweet, but an apple without the crispness is rarely worth eating.

Thanks a lot, grad school, I'll probably never think about food the same way again.

One month of laser eyes

It's been a month now since I had laser eye surgery, and I really like it so far. I have another 3 months of eye drops to look forward to (ugh), but I haven't had any major complications so far. I go in for my 1-month checkup tomorrow, so I'll see what the doctor has to say. Personally, I'm impressed that I've managed to go a full month without getting hit in the face, what with all the volleyball and racquetball I've been playing.

Carrie's pretty jealous, but it's rather expensive to have it done. Fortunately, there's this do-it-yourself kit that we're going to try out. Click the picture for more info.
